What to do when you feel ill

Employees and contractors who have symptoms of a communicable disease (e.g., fever, chills, coughing) should stay home to ensure no sick or ill workers attend the workplace.

If you believe you have a communicable disease, take the following steps:

  • Stay home when you’re sick
    • Employees: Use a sick day (paid leave) when you are sick. If you are symptomatic but feel able to work, and you have permission from your supervisor to work from home, you may do so
    • Contractors: Work with your RRU contact to rearrange your work schedule
  • Notify your supervisor or RRU contact
  • Contact a health care professional as needed
  • Do not return to campus until your symptoms have cleared. In the case of a campus-wide communicable disease outbreak, follow the university’s directions. Contact Human Resources for support or questions.

Daily health check

It’s good practice to do a quick daily health check to assess your condition before coming to work at RRU.

Before arriving on campus, reflect on how you are feeling. If you have symptoms (e.g., fever, chills, cough, sore throat) that you believe are caused by a communicable disease, take the steps above.
