BC Remembers the First World War 2014-2018
Royal Roads University and the BC Museums Association invite you to join us on campus for a one-day focus forum on commemorating the First World War during the 2014 – 2018 centenary period.
During the all-day session we will explore possible approaches to First World War commemoration through a facilitated program that focuses on issues, resources, partnerships, good practices and approaches from around the world while providing an opportunity for sharing and networking.
This forum is open to BC-based museums, archives, galleries, libraries, educational institutions, heritage sites, city heritage planners and provincial agencies. To support province-wide participation, forum attendance is either face-to-face in Victoria or by distance through the Royal Roads University online learning platform that will live-stream the session and enable facilitated online discussion in small groups.
On campus attendees will be provided coffee breaks and lunch, along with a presentation and tour highlighting Royal Roads University and National Historic Site, Hatley Castle, and their connections to the First World War.
To register for this free event, visit museumsassn.bc.ca.
For compilation and distribution at the forum, registrants are requested to provide the following in advance: a paragraph on what their organizations are planning or exploring for the centenary; and a photograph or two that reflects the significance of the war, its memorialization or commemoration in their community. A week in advance of the forum we will send an email requesting this information.
