What role does fear and failure play in achieving insight and innovation? Join Jennifer Walinga, director of the School of Communication and Culture, as she summarizes a series of studies she conducted with colleagues from the University of Victoria on training insight and creative problem solving. This presentation is part of the ongoing Roads to Research series.

By having the courage to acknowledge and probe fears, barriers, and failures, we discover new pathways and perspectives on the problem that then lead to new insights, solutions, and ideas, Walinga says. The process demands an evolutionary leap as we learn to understand and then override our biological impulses in order to access our higher order thinking, and generate more innovative, systemic and sustainable solutions.

When: Wednesday, Oct. 9, noon to 1 p.m.
Where: Centre for Dialogue, Room 407

Coffee provided. Please bring your lunch.
