Instructional Skills Workshop (on campus 3-day workshop)
This course runs Feb 3-5, 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. each day. To register for the ISW, please contact email@example.com.
Are you ready to reinvigorate your classroom teaching? This participatory workshop affirms the instructional techniques you already do well, while encouraging you to take risks and try unfamiliar techniques. You'll see innovative activities modeled by facilitators and other participants - everyone learning from and sharing with each other.
During the intensive three days, you will try out and critically evaluate dozens of tools and classroom learning activities. Discussions emerge throughout, and include such topics as: positive and negative teaching experiences; dealing with classroom situations; managing learner difficulties; and sharing ideas.
- Lesson Planning and the BOPPPS model
- Instructional Strategies and Learning Activities
- Adult Learners and Learning Styles
- Learning Outcomes, Rubrics, and Assessments
- The RRU Learning and Teaching Model
- Facilitating Diverse Groups
- Providing Thoughtful Feedback
- Reflective Practice
You will receive materials and instructions, meet your ISW Facilitators and fellow participants, and begin building a respectful and supportive space. This will assist you in preparing for the mini-lesson you will facilitate on the first day of class. Each mini-lesson concludes with meaningful feedback from the ISW Facilitators and the other students.
Each of the three days is an intensive seven-hour day and you will need some preparation time prior to each day.
Instructional Designers from RRU's Centre for Teaching and Educational Technologies (CTET) are all experienced educators with a variety of backgrounds that range from higher education, K-12, private sector and government.
NOTE: In Canada, participants who have successfully completed an ISW are eligible for advanced placement, transfer credit or prior learning assessment and recognition (PLAR) in several programs e.g. Provincial Instructor Diploma Program (PIDP) For others, see http://iswnetwork.ca/about/isw-and-further-education/
