Roads to Research presents the ResiliencebyDesign Research Innovation Lab:
Youth Voices Rising! The RbD Lab’s journey to connect youth ideas to wildfire disaster recovery decisions through Creative Action Research
Abstract: Researchers from the Royal Roads ResiliencebyDesign Research Innovation Lab will discuss the two-year “Youth Voices Rising (YVR): Recovery and Resilience in Wood Buffalo” project, funded by the Canadian Red Cross. YVR learns from and with youth (age 14 to 24) affected by the Fort McMurray wildfire disaster as they apply strategies of action research, creative arts and other visual storytelling methods. The talk will showcase the #YouthVoicesWB social media campaign; feature songs about recovery by local youth; highlight two PhotoVoice projects in Indigenous communities and share a conceptual framework the RbD Lab is developing to support youth engagement during and after disaster events.
