Black on referendum results

Voters’ decision to keep the first past the post electoral system in the recent referendum didn’t come as a surprise to School of Communication and Culture Assoc. Prof. David Black.

In a recent interview on CHEK News, he says demographics were likely a factor in the election outcome.

Here’s an excerpt:

“Younger [voters], often renters, preferred PR. Older voters [who] have been socialized within first-past-the-post, have been voting in it for decades, tended to favour the status quo….”
