School of Environment and Sustainability Prof. Ann Dale was interviewed by Mark Brennae on CFAX 1070 regarding the fires and deforestation crises in South America’s Amazon rainforest, their effect on climate change, and what actions listeners can take.

“They’re cutting more and more of the forest to raise beef. So when I talk about the driving factors, one of them is our demand for beef.
“The biggest single thing you can do to reduce your greenhouse gas emissions, more than getting out of your car, is reduce your meat consumption to twice a week. And even more preferable, if you buy your meat locally, and support your local economy, then you are reducing the demand for clearcutting in the Amazon.”
