Warrant Officer Jessica Hewett, a Bachelor of Arts in Justice Studies grad (2019) and recipient of the first Lieutenant Governor’s Medal for Inclusion, Democracy and Reconciliation at Royal Roads, was interviewed by On the Island’s Gregor Craigie about her award, studies and career.
Here is an excerpt:
“Starting off the program and being in the military I always loved debating and targeting those contentious subjects that get people fired up. I often said we’ve lost the art of debating; people don’t know how to debate anymore. But, through my time in the program, I actually feel that it’s not so much that we’ve lost the art of debate, but we don’t spend enough time before we enter into those discussions to get to know where the other person is coming from.”
