Robin Cox on the process of evacuation in a disaster

A state of emergency has been declared for the province of BC, with upwards of 14,000 people evacuated from their homes due to the growing wildfires. Disaster and Emergency Management Program Head and Prof. Robin Cox was interviewed by Roundhouse Radio Vancouver about the psychology of evacuation in a disaster situation.

“It’s a situation where there’s a sense of lack of control, lots of fear, uncertainty, stress and for some people trauma,” says Cox. “There are multiple layers of stress and potential loss.”
