Royal Roads opens new environmental science building

Royal Roads University’s new environmental science building and undergraduate hub, the Sherman Jen Building, opened earlier this month. The $24.8-million project received $9.3 from the Government of Canada, $5.7 million from the provincial government and $7 million from philanthropist Dr. Sherman Jen.

The century-old former Mews building underwent twenty-first century upgrades to align the building with BC’s and Canada’s climate change and sustainability goals by improving energy efficiency while retaining the building’s federally recognized heritage status.

Here’s an excerpt from the Times Colonist:

“Jonathan Wilkinson, federal minister of fisheries and oceans, said he knows first-hand how much government relies on science and scientific advice and called opening the new building a special privilege.

‘Our government firmly believes the path to a better life for all Canadians is through education, research and innovation,’ he said.”
