Royal Roads showcases Indigenous cultures for National Indigenous Day
June 21, 2016
Associate Vice-President Student and Academic Services Roberta Mason and Manger of Indigenous Education and Student Services Asma-na-hi Antoine were interviewed by Richard Watts of the Times Colonist about National Indigenous Day activities on campus June 21.
Here is an excerpt:
Asma-na-hi Antoine said the gathering is part of the university’s commitment to a positive relationship with First Nations peoples, in particular the nearby Lkwungen-speaking peoples of Songhees and Esquimalt.
“It’s for faculty and staff as well,” said Antoine. “There are some traditional protocols and customs about being on Lkwungen lands that need to be followed.”
