Jennifer Smith, Master of Arts in Leadership—Health grad, attended her Nov. 9 convocation ceremony wearing a piece of regalia steeped in family history.
The blanket, which belonged to her great-grandfather, became a family heirloom after being claimed in battle from a Tsimshian chief.
Smith’s great-grandfather sold the blanket to the Royal BC Museum in 1975 with the provision that future generations could sign it out for special occasions.
“Even though the blanket resides in the museum, the sacredness of it is still very present and you can feel the history of our ancestors,” she says.
