BCom grad receives UN climate award

Royal Roads Bachelor of Commerce in Entrepreneurial Management grad Shaun Frankson has been recognized with a 2017 United Nations Climate Solutions Award for implementing an innovative recycling initiative in Haiti. Together with David Katz, the co-founders of Plastic Bank received the award in Bonn, Germany Nov. 15.

Plastic Bank is an international corporation that combines recycling with poverty reduction—transforming ecosystems and lives.

People bring plastic to the Plastic Bank in exchange for money, items or services—reducing waste clogging gutters or waterways. Recycling entrepreneurs receive training in accounting, financial literacy and community engagement strategies. They also receive a fair and consistent income.

The 2017 UN ‘Momentum for Change’ Climate Solutions Award honoured 19 initiatives taking action against global climate change.
