Business academic announced as new Vice-president

Royal Roads University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Pedro Márquez as the new Vice-president, Global, Marketing and Business Development.

“Pedro Márquez will provide important leadership to Royal Roads’ future development, particularly in the areas of marketing, recruitment, international and business development, as we innovate and become more market-demand focused,” says Allan Cahoon, president and vice-chancellor of Royal Roads. “The newly created position generated considerable interest and Pedro was selected from an applicant pool of 87 potential candidates. Ultimately it was Dr. Márquez’s background, including his business development experience, his strong academic leadership and his exposure to and involvement in international partnerships that led to our endorsement of him for this role.”

Cahoon says in Márquez’s more than seven years at Royal Roads as dean, Faculty of Management, he has proven to be a strong advocate for the university. “He is passionate about students, he co-developed the unique Royal Roads Learning and Teaching model and he brings a wealth of experience to our long term mission and goals.”

In addition to his work at Royal Roads, including his recent role as acting vice-president, Márquez offers an impressive and accomplished career. Prior to joining RRU in 2007, he held several positions at Tecnólogico de Monterrey in Mexico City, including dean of the Business School, academic director of the CEMEX International Management Program and department head and professor in the Department of Management and International Business.  Márquez holds a PhD from the University of Calgary.

Within the local business community, Márquez is an active director on the board of the West Shore Chamber of Commerce and was a board member for four years with the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance.

The appointment is effective as of Feb. 1, 2015.
