Comfort Inn & Suites named internship employer of the year
Royal Roads University has named Victoria Comfort Inn & Suites the winner of the university’s first annual Internship Employer of the Year Award.
The award, created to recognize outstanding internship employers for the valuable learning experience they provide, was presented at the university’s fifth annual Career Development Conference Feb. 8.
Comfort Inn & Suites mentors many interns from the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management each year in roles throughout the hotel and its restaurant.
“The university is grateful for the support of hotel staff and management, who have been essential supporters to the internship program, offering opportunities for students to gain crucial experience,” says Natasha Dilay, Manager of Career Learning and Development for Royal Roads. “The team has provided support and mentorship that far exceeds our expectations.”
“The internship program has been a win-win partnership,” says Comfort Inn & Suites General Manager Cheryl Wang. “It gives the students skills they need and a competitive advantage, while allowing us as employers to see their abilities and potential. Most of our interns end up working for us afterwards.”
Royal Roads graduate and front desk supervisor Keith Wang says his internship at the hotel in May 2016 kick-started his career.
“It was quite an amazing experience and the staff was very helpful as I worked to achieve my goal of improving my communication and personal development,” Wang says. “My classroom experience also prepared me for my diverse workplace; my classmates and coworkers are from around the world.”
