Katharine Harrold joins Royal Roads as Vice-president, Communications and Advancement
Royal Roads University is pleased to announce the appointment of Katharine Harrold to the position of vice-president, communications and advancement effective March 30, 2015.
“Ms. Harrold brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership experience to Royal Roads,” said President and Vice-chancellor Allan Cahoon. “Her dedication to and passion for the field of philanthropy is evident and her qualifications are impressive.”
Harrold joins Royal Roads from the United Way of the Lower Mainland (Burnaby) where she held the position of vice-president, resource development since 2013 and the position of director of philanthropy from 2011 to 2013. At the United Way, she was responsible for raising $30 million annually through multiple revenue streams, including 44,000 donors, 700 workplace campaigns, and major and planned giving programs.
From 2009 to 2011, Harrold held the position of director of advancement for the faculty of environment at Simon Fraser University, and secured for the faculty the third largest gift in the university’s history – an $8 million contribution.
She launched the Nature Conservancy of Canada B.C. Region’s first Campaign for Conservation, raising $25 million as the organization’s director of philanthropy from 2001 to 2009. Harrold has held positions as national campaign director for the David Suzuki Foundation and alumni relations coordinator for the Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific between 1997 and 2004.
In this new appointment, Harrold returns to her fundraising roots at Royal Roads University. As campaign manager for the university from 2000-2001, she led Royal Roads’ first fundraising campaign.
With a family military background, Harrold also brings a personal connection to Royal Roads’ own military legacy, and she understands well the university’s pride in its roots.
Harrold holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Principia College in Elsah, Illinois. She will be relocating to the Victoria area with her husband and two children.
