The Centre for Teaching and Educational Technologies (CTET) would like to announce changes coming to CaptureSpace, the video and media recorder in Moodle. CaptureSpaceis the tool in your My Media library that allows you to record video, narrated presentations, audio and other media recordings. The tool is available to all faculty, associate faculty, staff and students who use Moodle. Users access the recording tool by clicking “Add New” in their My Media library. CaptureSpace will soon be replaced by Kaltura Capture, which offers the same recording features within a simplified user interface and a new design.

In addition to all the same features as CaptureSpace, new features that Kaltura Capture will bring include:

  • the automatic creation of searchable chapters for PowerPoint presentations;
  • new annotation tools to enhance screen recordings;
  • the option of adding closed captions and generating transcripts of their videos. Closed captioning is important because it ensures accessibility and provides learners with viewing options (e.g., they may choose to watch with sound off, or to listen and follow along by reading at the same time).

To help prepare for the change, both options will be available until July 27, 2019, and then CaptureSpace will be retired.
