An Archival Moment: Now that's a cake!

Jenny Seeman
1972 Christmas Cake

Balls and gala events were important to cadets during Royal Roads’ military years. A party atmosphere was a welcome break from the rigid study routines. The picture below shows some of the scenes from the Christmas Ball of December 20, 1972. The sweets table at the bottom of the page is spectacular – a detailed model of Hatley Castle was created as the centrepiece. Another photograph shows a baker putting the finishing touches on the cake. It really puts my gingerbread house efforts to shame!

If you would like to know more about the archival collection, have stories, photographs, or documents that you believe belong in the archives, or if you need my assistance, you can email me or find me in the library, and on extension 4122. Happy Holidays!
