Join us January 30 from noon to 1 p.m. in Nixon 103 for an archives tour led by Archives Manager Jenny Seeman.
The archives at RRU is a fascinating collection in a variety of media with content that covers not only university corporate records, but also Royal Roads Military College and the Dunsmuir era. From the comfort of a classroom, our winter ‘tour’ will take us on a walk through the Hatley Park of yesterday with two very different short films, shot just three years apart. The first, from 1938, shows a luxurious family home being ambitiously marketed as a private estate with seemingly endless acres of peace and beauty to enjoy. The second, from 1941, shows a new wartime naval training establishment with cadets preparing for a demanding and dangerous life at sea. Both are amateur films but are in full colour and remarkably good quality for their age.
As well as the visual spectacle, Jenny will provide some context to the films and talk about the people who created them some 80 years ago.

See you there!
