Attitudes toward Asian investment
Hugh Stephens, associate faculty member in the School of Business has just published an article in China-US Focus, a New York based online publication, on the topic Attitudes to Asian Investment: It All Depends on the Context.
The article is based on conflicting results from the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada's National Opinion Polls for 2014 and 2015 in which Canadian attitudes to Asian investment seemed to vary widely. Stephens examines why this might be, disaggregating attitudes toward Chinese investment from Asian investment generally. He notes the surge in favourable attitudes toward investment from Japan and compares that to the situation in the 1980s. Finally he compares attitudes toward Chinese investment in the USA and Canada and draws some conclusions for the future.
