Black History Month guest speaker

Silvia Mangue Alene from the B.C. History Awareness Society

During Black History month this year, Canada honors the strength, courage and vision of Black women in history. On Tuesday, Feb. 27, the Diversity Action Group welcomes Silvia Mangue Alene from the BC Black History Awareness Society as a guest speaker to the on-campus Black History Month Movie Night event. Before the movie, Silvia will be presenting about incredible Black Women in BC History. Don't miss this event!

The Diversity Action Group will also welcome guest speaker, Professor Emeritus Dr. Michael Real, who was at the March on Washington in August of 1963. He will be sharing a brief overview of his experiences at the iconic Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. "I Have a Dream" speech, to introduce the movie Selma. Dr. Real retired from the School of Communications at RRU in 2016, after many years of teaching at the post-secondary level. He has written four books and has published chapters in 30 book anthologies during his impressive career. Dr. Real is originally from the U.S. and is proud of his part in the Civil Rights movement.
