Campus progress update
University roadwork finished
Thank you to the Royal Roads community for supporting the improvements to core infrastructure services (data, power, water, drainage and lighting) along University Drive this past year. Minor work continues around the Boathouse, Sneq'wa e'lun and House 14, with the expected completion end of September.
Installation of lighting along Library Road is complete, making the campus safer for all users, just in time for winter!
Campus power outage successful
Thanks to all for supporting the campus power outage on September 7. We are now able to isolate power outages to specific areas around campus as needed to facilitate upgrades and future deferred maintenance.
Campus space plan
This weekend Human Resources, College of Interdisciplinary Studies, and the Offices of Research and Ethics are all moving. See the “Campus Space Plan Update for September” for details.
Deferred maintenance roadwork
To improve campus safety, we are refreshing the line painting on various roads throughout campus. This work will progress, weather permitting, over the next few months and is expected to be complete by end of the year. A combination of barricades, pylons or personnel will be used to facilitate the safe completion of work. In order to minimize impact on the campus user, this work will combine day and night work.
Learning and Teaching Auditorium and West Campus infrastructure upgrades
Construction activity continues in the West Campus area.
Remember to obey the 10 km speed limit on West Campus Road, as construction vehicles are often travelling to and from the work site. You will see flaggers along West Campus Road and in front of the Learning and Teaching Auditorium. Please be safe and obey the flaggers as they manage traffic.
Improvements to drainage continue near House 3 and the area below P7; some parking spots in the southeast corner of P7 may be closed during this time. Additional parking continues to be available below P7/adjacent to Cottonwood Lane.
Internet service upgrades
The wireless access points (APs) cabling was completed the week of September 9, 2019 as scheduled. The APs will be installed on September 21, 2019.
The migration of Arbutus 7a to the new network is planned to take place on September 26, 2019, afterhours. A separate communiqué will be issued on September 25, 2019 to the building occupants to confirm the change window.
All staff, students and visitors to campus are reminded to obey the posted speed limits and watch for flag people directing traffic.
Safe driving on campus is essential to everyone’s wellbeing.
