Communications welcomes Lisa Weighton
The Communications and Advancement team is delighted to welcome Lisa Weighton to the role of communications officer.
Lisa is an accomplished writer and academic who joins Royal Roads after spending almost a year working as a communications advisor in Tanzania with the World University Service of Canada’s Uniterra program. She has also worked as a communications and research consultant with Farm Radio International in Ottawa and as a news reporter in Victoria, BC and in Nairobi, Kenya. In 2010/11, Lisa worked at the Nation Media Group in Nairobi as a Young Professional in Media Fellow with the Aga Khan Foundation Canada. Her reporting focused on stories concerning health, food security and human rights issues.
She holds a Master of Arts in International Development and Global Studies from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor of Journalism, Honours from the University of King’s College, Halifax. Her master’s thesis explores peace journalism theories and practices in Kenya. She recently published a co-authored article based on her study in the Journal of Eastern African Studies.
