Doctoral students on campus Aug 8-25

Dear Colleagues,

I’m excited to welcome our new and returning cohorts of Doctor of Social Sciences students to campus next Tuesday, Aug. 8. As many of you are aware, our Doctoral program has been getting some amazing press recently. The Conference Board of Canada recently released an in-depth case study report on the program. Among other things, the report highlighted our unique model of delivery and pedagogical framework in support of training “advanced scholar-practitioners who are developing high-quality, action-oriented research.”

So much of the success of our program, I feel, can be contributed to our engaged Royal Roads University faculty and staff who continue to support and engage with our students as they journey through the various phases of our doctoral program. This summer I want to invite all of you to participate in our doctoral residency. We have three public events scheduled that will provide an opportunity for you to engage, support and get to know our students and their various applied interdisciplinary research projects:

  • Year 2 doctoral students will be showcasing their emerging research design in two lunch hour Roads to Research forums sponsored by our amazing Office of Research: August 16 and August 23, Noon to 1 p.m. on the Grant Quarterdeck. Coffee and snacks will be provided.
  • Year 1 doctoral students will be sharing their research interest(s) and perspectives in a morning session on August 25 in the Castle Drawing room from 8:30 a.m. to noon. This session is hosted by the College of Interdisciplinary Studies and its Doctor of Social Sciences program. Coffee and snacks will be provided.

I hope to see you over the next few weeks at one or more of these sessions. And please don’t hesitate to connect with me if you have any questions at all about our program.
