Sean Irwin

I’m pleased to announce that a new core faculty member, Dr. Sean Irwin, has recently joined the School of Business.

Sean Irwin’s research investigates the intersection of food systems and rural development as a means to address the interconnected problems of future global food needs and reducing rural poverty. His research has focused on food security, gender equality, the effects of international trade and globalization on small-scale farmers and the environmental impact of food systems. Sean’s geographic focus is Latin America, with past research experience in rural remote Belize and the Amazonian region of Bolivia. He has experience working in the private, public and non-profit sectors. He has spearheaded information and communication technology projects with First Nations, Métis and francophone communities across Western Canada, and worked for the Manitoba government as a disaster management specialist as well as for international NGOs such as Habitat for Humanity and the Canadian Red Cross. Sean has also taught at SFU, Camosun College and University of Victoria. He holds a PhD in Geography from University of Victoria, a Master of Rural Development from Brandon University (2012) and a Master of International Trade from the University of Saskatchewan (2011).

Sean started on Sept 3, 2019. Please join me in warmly welcoming him to Royal Roads!
