February Campus Coffee was a great success

Thank you to everyone who attended Campus Coffee on Thursday, Feb. 1!

The goal of the event was to tie into the launch of Royal Roads’ first “draft” Sustainable Purchasing Guide, promote eco-friendly products and companies and encourage folks to think about their purchasing decisions. The event was a great success and we hope all those who attended enjoyed it as much as we did.

We would like to thank our vendors who came to campus to showcase some of their eco-friendly office supplies, compostable products, cleaning products, promotional material and alternative fuel vehicles on the market. We had representatives from Grand & Toy, Enterprise Paper, Truffles, Fairware and Motorize Your EV Store in attendance. Further information on the environmental practices and green products offered can be found on each company’s website.

The Sustainable Purchasing Guide has been developed as a tool to help Royal Roads continue to reduce its environmental footprint and achieve environmentally responsible purchasing, and also to make each of us more aware about the purchasing decisions we make. Sustainable purchasing is a process that evaluates the economic cost of a product, as well as the environmental, social and ethical costs of that product. It requires us to think about:

  1. What the product is made of?

  2. How the product was made?

  3. Where the product was made and by whom?

  4. How the product will be delivered?

  5. How long the product will last?

  6. What happens when the product is no longer useable?

The Office of Sustainability will be launching RRU’s first “draft” Sustainable Purchasing Guide in the coming weeks and we will be looking for feedback from the Royal Roads community (hence “draft”!) Please stay tuned.
