Forest fire

Fire season is upon us early this year and the Coastal Fire Centre has raised the Forest Fire Rating to HIGH on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, effective immediately.

We encourage our staff, students, faculty and visitors to ensure they are aware and vigilant about fire prevention. Please note as per the City of Colwood Outdoor Burning Restriction and Regulation Bylaw No. 931, the use of outdoor fire appliances is prohibited when the forest fire rating is high or extreme. For safety, please ensure cigarettes are properly extinguished in the designated smoking areas around campus.

Our RRU Fire Wardens and Physical and Environmental Resources team are trained to respond in the event of a building or campus evacuation. In the event of a fire, please ensure you evacuate as directed to the assembly/muster point and await instructions from emergency personnel.

Your cooperation is appreciated as we work hard to ensure the safety of our campus and all that use it.

If you have questions about fire safety and prevention, please contact Stewart Ralph or Dale Mintenko in Physical and Environmental Resources.
