International Women’s Day: March 8, 2018

International Women’s Day 2018

International Women’s Day, designated by the United Nations and celebrated around the world on March 8, celebrates the contributions of women and calls on everyone to renew efforts to achieve gender equality.

This year, Status of Women Canada’s theme for International Women’s Day is #MyFeminism. Join the conversation on social media using #MyFeminism and join the conversation at Royal Roads by sharing what feminism means to you here, on padlet.

Want to get involved in person? You can donate to the United Way Tampon Tuesday drive (collecting donations at the Rec Centre until March 6) or check out community events happening across Canada. Right here at Royal Roads, you can attend a free talk on Women in Leadership facilitated by Jennifer Walinga on Thursday, March 8.

You can also explore great work being done by women in the Royal Roads community. For example, learn more about Shelley Jones’ research in Uganda, Julia Jahansoozi and Virginia McKendry’s research about women in Canada’s public relations industry and Theresa Mackay’s research on women innkeepers across the Scottish Highlands.

For more information about diversity at Royal Roads or to get involved visit the Diversity Action Group website.
