Juan Navarro attended APEC meeting
School of Business associate faculty member Juan Navarro participated in two events of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) held in Chile on May 13-15, 2019. The first event was the panel "the Evolving Trade System and Role of APEC" where he presented with Dr. Craik VanGrasstek, John F. Kennedy School, Harvard University and Dr. Sheng Bin, Dean, School of Economics, Nankai University. The panel was moderated by Mr. Rodrigo Yáñez, General Directorate of Foreign Economic Affairs, Chile. This panel was part of the "APEC Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue" that brought together senior officials, diplomats, academics and leaders from the private sector with the objective to discuss the emerging issues that will need to be addressed by APEC.
Navarro also participated in the Senior Officials Meeting (SOM2). In this meeting, Navarro had the opportunity to present to the senior officials of the 21 Asia Pacific economies which form this forum, his research completed for the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) titled "FTAAP: Next Generation Trade and Investments Issues, a business perspective". This research presented a comparative analysis among three pathways of the eventual FTAAP (CPTPP, RCEP and Pacific Alliance) taking up issues of State Owned Enterprises (SOEs), E-commerce, Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs), Transparency, Competition and Cross-Border Trade in Service.
