The Kelly Outstanding Teaching Awards recognize core and associate faculty members who are representative of outstanding teaching at Royal Roads. Leading up to the 2019 awards presentation at Campus Conversation on November 27, we will highlight nominees (in alphabetical order) via a special profile on their teaching philosophy.

The nominee profiled this week is Barb Stoddard.

I believe teachers are agents of learning; we continually adjust our sails to fit the changing winds of learners’ needs and wants. Teaching is not telling. The necessary precursor to learning is engagement, not obedience; engaged learners take charge of their learning and find meaning, personal connection and purpose in it.
