The Kelly Outstanding Teaching Awards recognize core and associate faculty members who are representative of outstanding teaching at Royal Roads. Leading up to announcing the recipients in early October and the awards presentations at October 15’s Campus Conversation, we will highlight each nominee (or set of nominees, in this case) via a special profile on their teaching philosophy.

The nominees profiled this week are the teaching team of Doug Hamilton and Hong Fu.

“Our vision is for all learners to contribute to a dynamic and engaging learning community despite different languages, cultures, positions, and aspirations. We aspire to create a learning environment where language and cultural differences are not barriers but instead are key assets in supporting the learning process for both Chinese and Canadian educators. And, wherever possible, we want to ensure that the inter-cultural learning process we design helps learners seamlessly transfer the learning back to their own working contexts.”

The Kelly Outstanding Teaching Awards are open to all Royal Roads University faculty members who are actively engaged in teaching for-credit or non-credit courses at RRU.  A call for nominations is made each spring to faculty, staff, and students. Learn more about the awards and see past recipients.
