Launching WebSpace: Personalised websites

The Center for Teaching & Educational Technologies (CTET) has launched the first phase of a new technology service called WebSpace. WebSpace is an RRU-supported web self-publishing tool based on the popular Wordpress platform.

CTET receives many requests for quick, flexible and user-friendly web spaces to support student publishing in courses and programs. By offering WebSpace in CTET’s service catalogue of learning technologies, RRU joins a growing number of post-secondary institutions in B.C. and North America where students and faculty are integrating open web publishing into teaching, learning, collaboration and scholarly communications.

The School of Tourism and Hospitality Management is one of the first users of WebSpace. Program Head Moira McDonald had this to say about her students' experience so far:

"By introducing WebSpace (WordPress) to third-year undergraduate students, we have given the students space to be creative and to share their work with each other. WebSpace has helped us deliver relevant digital marketing hands-on experience in the course where the students can learn this tool under the safety of RRU. The training resources provided by CTET helped the students get familiar with the technology, and after one session they were able to start creating work due in a course assignment."

In the first phase, WebSpace is being offered primarily to support teaching and learning activities in courses and programs where creation of portfolio artefacts and reflection fit well with course learning outcomes and assessments. If you are a program head or faculty member interested in using WebSpace as part of your course, then please connect with your CTET Instructional Designer. We will help you determine if your course is a good candidate for adopting WebSpace.

Demonstrations of WebSpace and support for faculty adoption will be offered through STUDIO in the near future. Watch for STUDIO events about WebSpace, posted through Crossroads.
