Learning and Teaching Auditorium tour

Thanks to all who were able to join us for the LTA sneak peek tour last Friday, we were so pleased to see everyone!

With generous support from Campus Services, and with thanks to the Rec Centre for joining us to celebrate the reopening of the gym this Monday, Oct. 5, we were able to share the progress to date on the LTA and highlight adjacent projects.

For those who couldn’t make it, here are some highlights from the day!

New 500-seat auditorium with retractable seating and a “skyfold” partition which can split the room in two. On the second level, the Gallery houses an AV room and a small meeting room/break-out space.

The building is fully accessible, with an elevator to all levels and universal washrooms.

The Lobby offers a new and expanded entrance to the building and has large windows for lots of natural light; trim will include polished concrete floors, and Douglas Fir panelling throughout the building.

A smaller multipurpose room (the former squash courts!) is located off the lobby and offers a gorgeous forest backdrop, high ceilings, glass windows, and doors exiting to the north patio.

Additionally, there is space for a future servery off the lobby, which can be easily upgraded to facilitate banquet service for future events. In the short term, this space can be used for coat check and other services.

Project work adjacent to the LTA includes an innovative geothermal heat exchange system, a first on the RRU campus!  This new system will heat and cool the LTA and returned geoexchange water can be used for irrigation.

Landscape upgrades to College Drive will create a connection between the Learning & Teaching Auditorium and the Sherman Jen Building.  The first stages of this work are scheduled to start in mid-October; stay tuned for more updates on road closures and the impact to parking and access to the west campus.

Finally, thank you to all for providing comments for our whiteboard, we are fashioning this into a Thank You card for the project team and construction crews, with gratitude for all their hard work!
