Lucky ducky winners crowned in annual race

It was a lunch hour of splashes, spills and thrills today at the 10th annual Duck Race, held in support of the Royal Roads United Way campaign.

More than 40 members of the Royal Roads community turned out at the fish ladder to cheer on their ducks and enjoy treats, as 100.3 the Q’s Cliff LeQuesne announced the play-by-play.

The event raised $800 for the United Way of Greater Victoria, which helps people throughout the region.

While all the duckies tried their best (except Number 11, who took a break on a fish ladder rung halfway through one of the racing heats), alas, only three lucky ducks cruised to victory in the final.

First place goes to Viral Mangukia, who wins a night at the Holiday Inn Express in Colwood.

The second place prize of a $50 gift card to Boston Pizza was won by Nicole Beazley.

Third place, a $25 gift certificate for Borella Italian Kitchen, goes to Cyndy Mason.

Thanks to the United Way committee for organizing such a fun event, and a special thanks to Gina Williams for her hard work on the duck race this year.
