The 2014 CSTD Conference and Trade Show is being held in Toronto in November, with a theme of "Connect, Collaborate and Transform."

Associate faculty member Alice MacGillivray will facilitate a workshop on a topic relevant to many Royal Roads faculty and students: "Problem-based Learning as Training: When, Why, and How?" It is geared towards senior professionals who demonstrate mastery in the workplace learning field.

Connections with the conference theme include: "CONNECT with colleagues who are ready to re-think designs for learning in complex and unpredictable environments; COLLABORATE to understand how problem-based learning (PBL) can enable multi-layered benefits in such environments; and TRANSFORM and broaden your organizations' thinking about instructional design and situated learning for complex challenges."

Alice has used problem-based learning in many professional development projects as well as in graduate program residencies at Royal Roads. She is currently using aspects of this learning approach for the first time in an online course.
