It is with great sadness that I share with you news that Dr. Tom Phelan passed away unexpectedly at home in Clinton, NY on January 17.

“Dr. Tom”, as he was fondly known, joined the School of Humanitarian Studies as an associate faculty member in the fall of 2013. He was a valued colleague and professor who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Tom was teaching Risk and Crisis Communications (HUMS661) to more than 49 students in the School of Humanitarian Studies and the Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies programs at the time of his passing. Benjamin Morgan has stepped forward to assume Tom’s teaching portfolio at this time and the school will support Tom’s students in every way possible.

Read more about Tom in his Royal Roads faculty biography; his recent Crossroads post about his emergency communications research and his obituary posted to the OD Observer Dispatch.

Please join us in keeping Tom’s loved ones in your thoughts.
