Mike Thompson is retiring
Since 2003, Mike Thompson has been a stalwart fixture in the School of Business. It is with both great sadness for us and great joy for him that we announce Mike is retiring on March 31, 2020.
Mike has served in numerous roles at Royal Roads and within the School of Business, including academic lead for management consulting and strategic mentor for organizational management projects in the MBA program. Mike played a pivotal role in spearheading the successful alliance between Certified Management Consultants Canada and RRU to establish the Management Consulting stream within the MBA. He also led the way in linking student learning and industry engagement, developing the innovative, live case studies model in the MBA, which provides opportunities for students to work on solving complex, real-world problems for industry clients. Mike has authored several publications, including Business Diagnostics, which introduces business owners through a pragmatic and effective “size up” process.
Mike holds a BA in Economics (Hons) from the University of Manchester, professional certifications including the Fellow of Institute of Canadian Bankers (FICB) and Fellow Certified Management Consultant (FCMC) as well as a diploma in land economics from the University of British Columbia. He is also a visiting professor at the Grenoble Graduate School of Business in France.
Not one to throw a wobbler, Mike is an ace at keeping calm. We will miss his unflappable nature, incredible expertise, passion, acerbic British wit, natty dressing and other fine qualities. That said, we’re chuffed for Mike to reach this milestone and enjoy more free time for long bike rides, epic hikes and globetrotting adventures with his wife, Trish.
Please join us from 3:30 pm on Thursday, March 5th in the LIC – Centre for Dialogue for drinks and appetizers to celebrate Mike Thompson’s retirement. RSVP by email. Looking forward to seeing you then!
