A mindful business
Continuing Studies' facilitator, Patricia Galaczy, crosses seamlessly from corporate boardrooms to meditation halls with barely a mindful breath in between. A facilitator in the private and public sectors teaching leadership, communications and human resource management practices for more than 13 years, Patricia has also been a mindfulness and yoga student for the same period of time. Today, she blends the two worlds to bring a rare and in demand skill set to the workplace.
"I've always really been interested in people and people's potential," Patricia tells us. "How we work, how we think and how we can be better together, play relationally into an organizational context."
Patricia holds a Master's Degree in Industry Relations from Queens University and has studied mindfulness at Spirit Rock Meditation Centre in California, as well as completed certificate training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) with Jon Kabat-Zinn.
Although a skillful practitioner in both professional advancement and mindful practices, she struggled for several years in how to bring the language of mindfulness into a work environment and make it practical and accessible at every level of an organization with all its challenges.
"One of my favourite definitions of leadership is being able to see clearly and respond skillfully," Patricia shares. "So much of what we understand about our capacities, our relationships, the organizational dynamics have to do with our ability to be able to pay attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally, and when we don't do that it has repercussions."
Next month, Continuing Studies will be offering three of her courses where you will have the opportunity to experience Patricia's passion for her work and the potential that lies within you!
