North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week
May 8-12, 2017

Monday, May 8 - Colouring Contest and Scavenger Hunt

As part of NAOSH week we are inviting Royal Roads staff and their kids to take part in a colouring contest. Print out the pictures (kids and/or adults) and colour it in as creatively as possible.
Completed sheets should be submitted by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10 in person at the library to Paris Carr. Make sure to put the artist’s name, contact info and age (for children) on the back!
We will be posting all of the contest entries at the Wellness Fair – "Make Safety and Health a Habit" on May 11 where people will be able to vote for the winners. There will be prizes for both children and adult submissions.

Check Crossroads on Friday, May 5 for the colouring outline!

RRU’s JOHS Committee is excited to launch our inaugural Safety Scavenger Hunt May 8-10, 2017. The intent of this activity is to provide a fun and interactive way for staff and faculty to increase their awareness about health & safety initiatives and emergency resources on our campus including within your own individual workspaces. Given that we are all very busy, this scavenger hunt has been uniquely designed to meet your individual needs; it can be done as your schedule allows anytime during May 8-10, 2017 and can be done individually or collaboratively with your colleagues so that you can all learn together (we hope you will choose the latter). In addition to gaining valuable knowledge and becoming more mindful of our surroundings, everyone who participates will be entered into a draw to win a prize. Stay tuned for the official launch on May 8, 2017!

Many employees do not know how to adjust their office chair or workstation appropriately to minimize their risk of musculoskeletal injury (MSI). This workshop will use evidenced-based ergonomic and biomechanical principles to educate employees on office workstation ergonomics and will identify strategies to assist in the reduction of MSI risk factors to promote health, wellness and productivity in the office environment.

During this workshop participants will:

  • Learn how to identify common ergonomic risk factors which may contribute to MSI in the office environment
  • Learn how to adjust office chairs and computer workstations to minimize their risk of injury and to optimize health and wellness in the workplace
  • Review additional strategies, including micro breaks and office stretches and exercise to help maintain and promote health and wellness in the workplace
