Negotiating fatalism and self-reliance


MAIIC student Christina Watts had her research published in Sports Ottawa this week. Christina's public ethnography focused on how Christian athletes negotiate between values of fatalism and self-reliance.

She writes: "Cultural wars have become a societal mainstay. A variety of cross-cultural debates ignite these “wars,” and with Canada’s population rising as a result of increased immigration, the prevalence of these debates is increasing. In turn, we as Canadians are faced with these culture wars, as we strive to preserve, or in some way, measure changing fundamental cultural understandings and practices."
