New book: Communities of Practice
Associate Faculty member Alice MacGillivray is one of several authors with chapters in a new book Communities of Practice: Facilitating Social Learning in Higher Education.
Communities of practice are groups of people who regularly connect to create and share knowledge. The study of communities of practice is often associated with knowledge management, organizational learning, social learning and information systems. The book is published by Springer and edited by Professor Jacquie MacDonald, a learming and teaching designer at the University of Southern Queensland, and Aileen Cater-Steel, a professor of information systems at the Univeristy of Southern Queensland.
The 28 chapters are organized into four themes:
- Theoretical Underpinnings Informing Communities of Practice
- Research of Higher Education Communities of Practice
- Leadership in Higher Education Communities of Practice
- Communities of Practice Sustaining Professional Learning and Development.
