The Kelly Outstanding Teaching Awards recognize core and associate faculty members who are representative of outstanding teaching at Royal Roads. Leading up to the 2017 awards announcement in September, we will highlight nominees (in alphabetical order) via a special profile on their teaching philosophy.

Bev McPhee

“Being nominated for the Kelly Outstanding Teaching award, by the LEAD 580 learners who left me with much more than I gave, is indeed a humbling honour and career highlight.
Reflecting upon this experience is like opening a window and feeling the familiar scent of a long-awaited spring rush in. Our learning community enjoyed a rich awakening of both academic and personal growth, as evidenced by final grades averaging 10% above my standard class norms and individual feedback that repeatedly documented epic life changes. My greatest professional learning from LEAD 580 is that when I extend belief in myself to simply “release the latch”, learners will respond with trust and abundance.”
