Outstanding teaching: Cheryl Heykoop
The Kelly Outstanding Teaching Awards recognize core and associate faculty members who are representative of outstanding teaching at Royal Roads. Leading up to the 2016 awards announcement in the fall, we will highlight nominees via a special profile on their teaching philosophy.
“Recognizing the transformative, generative capacity of learning, I feel a strong sense of responsibility to support learners to learn, reflect, grow, inspire, and thrive as knowledgeable, innovative, and interdisciplinary scholar-practitioners. As such, aligned with the Royal Roads University Teaching and Learning Model, six core approaches are integral to my teaching philosophy: value learner wisdom, nurture community, support action-oriented learning, harness innovation and creativity, encourage critical and thoughtful reflection, and spark personal transformation.”
