Outstanding teaching - Virginia McKendry
The Kelly Outstanding Teaching Awards recognize core and associate faculty members who are representative of outstanding teaching at Royal Roads. Leading up to the 2017 awards announcement in September, we will highlight nominees (in alphabetical order) via a special profile on their teaching philosophy.
"I seek to equip students with the reflective intelligence and skills they (and their organizations) need to ride the seas of continuous change, what Bauman (2005) calls the "liquid modern”. I approach teaching as complex caring work that is difficult to predict or stage, and defies my attempts to over-manage its mysteries. I consider it a privilege to be a guide, witness, and purveyor of the materials and tools that support graduates in realizing their goals, but also in dreaming new goals built on a newfound sense of possibility and courage."
