Remembering Darcy Belanger
Dear Royal Roads University community,
It is with heartfelt regret that I announce the death of one of our Royal Roads community members, graduate of the Executive Coaching program, Darcy Belanger.
Darcy died in the Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 crash on his way to Nairobi for the United Nations Environment Assembly on Sunday, March 10, 2019. Among 18 other Canadians who died so tragically that day, he was on his way to continue his life-changing work.
Darcy was a founding member of the international peace organization Parvati.org and a passionate advocate for the Marine Arctic Peace Sanctuary, which seeks to protect the Arctic Ocean from exploitation. In his professional life he was an executive with Edmonton-based PCL Construction.
I am aware that many among us kept in touch with Darcy and followed his career and volunteer work. For those of you who knew him personally, I offer my greatest sympathy.
The death of one of our community member affects us all. I know that together we send our thoughts and condolences to Darcy’s wife, family, friends, colleagues and the many people whose lives were touched by him and his courageous devotion to protecting our fragile world.
Our flag has been lowered as we take time to grieve this great loss and offer gratitude for his life.
