Royal Roads was highly visible at the Canadian Conference for Physician Leadership April 24-25 where the conference theme was Thriving in complexity: Physicians enabling transformational change.
Dr. Johny Van Aerde, president of the Canadian Society of Physician Executives (RRU alumnus and associate faculty), presented this year’s winner of the CSPE Excellence in Medical Leadership (Dr Chris Carruthers Award) to Dr. Dorothy Shaw. Dr. Shaw is a RRU Executive Coaching Alumna (2004) and is currently Vice-President, Medical Affairs at BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre and Clinical Professor, Departments of Gynaecology & Medical Genetics at the University of British Columbia.
Dr. Rowland Nichol, RRU MBA and Executive Coaching alumnus, Associate Chief Medical Officer, Alberta Health Services, was awarded a Canadian Certified Physician Executive Credential (the first Canadian certification program to recognize physicians for their exemplary leadership performance).
RRU Executive Coaching Alumni, Cecile Andreas, MD, Family Physician in Cranbook, BC and Nancy M. Merrow, MD, Chief of Staff, Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in Orillia, Ontario presented on The coach approach: change the conversation, change everything.
RRU’s Jennifer Walinga, Director, School of Communication and Culture and Zoe MacLeod, Director of Centre for Coaching and Workplace Innovation (& RRU alumna) presented a workshop on Advancing a Feminine Culture of Leadership and Jen continued on to present Building your Organizational Culture: the role and power of communication.
Both the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) and the Canadian Society of Physician Executives (CSPE) have adopted the LEADS in a Caring Environment Framework (created by Royal Roads University).
