Forest Fire, Ervins Strauhmanis

As hot and dry weather conditions on Vancouver Island continue, so does the risk of forest fires.

The fire danger rating on Southern Vancouver Island has been rated “extreme” since July 18. New fires can easily start and spread at this time. A campfire ban remains in effect.

We encourage staff, students, faculty and visitors to take steps to reduce the threat of wildfire on campus. Please limit smoking to designated areas and ensure cigarettes are fully extinguished. Please never smoke in forest areas.

Our Royal Roads University Fire Wardens and Physical and Environmental Resources team are trained to respond in the event of a building or campus evacuation. Please be aware of fire evacuation procedures. In the event of a fire, please ensure you evacuate as directed to the assembly/muster point and await instructions from emergency personnel.

Please email me or call at x2503 if you have any questions about fire safety procedures or prevention.
