Associate faculty members Hugh Stephens, Brian Parrott and Juan Navarro, experts in international commerce and trade policy, will be presenting next week in the panel “Canada and the Indo-Pacific”. They will be joined in by Phil Calvert, Senior Fellow with the China Institute University of Alberta, Margaret Cornish, Honourary Research Fellow with the Institute for Asian Research, and Victor Ramraj, Director Centre for Asia-Pacific Initiatives at the University of Victoria who will be the moderator for this panel. This is an event organized by the Canadian International Council (CIC) Victoria Chapter and it is part of its Global Economy Agenda.

CIC branches across Canada are holding numerous events focused on Global Public Health, the Global Economy, Climate Change and Security as lead-up to the national virtual event “Foreign Policy By Canadians”, which will be held in February 2021. The aim of CIC Victoria’s Global Economy focused events is to address the current state of Canada’s international trading relations, with a focus on the Indo-Pacific, and determine what strategic economic pivots might exist that could permit Canada to better safeguard its national interests while also promoting its values. The Canada and Indo-Pacific event will be held on Tuesday, December first from 3-4:30 pm (Pacific Time) via Zoom.
