Stewards of the Future Conference: June 5 - 7

This event brings students from all over British Columbia, as well as topic experts, together to discuss the challenges and opportunities from sustainable resource issues. The concept is to bring rural and urban students together to spend the weekend at Pearson College, with mentors and resource people to learn to work collaboratively to solve some of BC's well known resource conflicts!

A key objective of the Stewards of the Future program is to inspire, collaborate and learn from one other, and to provide youth with perspectives on the wide range of available educational and professional opportunities. To that end, Her Honour is offering this conference as a chance for students to share their projects, talk about what they learned, hear from inspiring keynote speakers from the environmental, corporate and non-profit sectors, and explore a mini “tradeshow” where organizations can share information about their programs, their work and their responsibility to be stewards of the future.

Conference sessions will include the following themes:

  • Parks and Recreation
  • Forests
  • Grasslands and Ranching
  • Energy
  • Oceans, Lakes, and Rivers
  • Agriculture
  • Invasive Species
  • BC Wildlife
  • Transportation

Conference Program of Events

As the RRU Director of Sustainability, I will be attending the conference and speaking on a panel on Saturday, June 6th, on Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability. This should be an exciting weekend and I will report on the highlights from the weekend in another Crossroads article.
