TEC Canada - MBA lunch and learn
Our recent Master of Business Administration cohort was treated to a lunch and learn session with TEC Canada Chair, David MacLean. Canada’s premier leadership development organization for executives, TEC helps nearly 1,200 members across the country grow their companies and themselves. With the backing of a global executive network more than 20,000 strong and spanning 16 countries, TEC has a deep understanding of what it takes to succeed from the top - and on your way up.
Recognizing that our MBA students are ambitious learners – leaders who value education and know that to achieve their goals, they must continually invest in their growth – we knew they could gain from exposure to the TEC community. To be a leader, you must set an example for others to follow. As David shared with our students, this is only possible if you surround yourself with peers who will stretch you and challenge you to reach your potential. “Leadership is a team sport,” he said. “It’s not meant to be played alone.”
In his work as a TEC Chair, David helps executives tap into the power of a peer group – a group of like-minded, ambitious entrepreneurs and executives, not unlike our MBA students. His lunch and learn session gave students a taste of the power of such a group and outlined for them the critical traits they will need to foster to further develop themselves as leaders.
“The seminar provided some highly engaging and pragmatic insights to our MBA students,” said Royal Roads associate professor Mike Thompson. “David shared valuable best practices in navigating the complexities and challenges our students will face when they leave Royal Roads to lead organizations.”
The lunch and learn was just the beginning. Royal Roads University and TEC Canada, with a common vision for lifelong learning and personal transformation, established a strategic partnership earlier this year. Both organizations aim to build results-driven leaders by providing the relevant and timely knowledge, tools and techniques required to be effective in today’s competitive business landscape. By joining forces, we are both better able to move this cause forward. Watch for more RRU-TEC events and other initiatives in the future.
